Plan to visit on the SATURDAY BEFORE THANKSGIVING for the cool season cottage garden seed sale! This will be the primary opportunity to purchase POPPIES, LARKSPUR, NIGELLA and other cool season, direct sown cottage garden seeds.

Through-out the afternoon Brie will demonstrate best practices for bed preparation, seed sowing, and management through the winter season to ensure your displays will be gorgeous in May!

Cool Season Seed for Direct Sowing Cottage Gardens

Mark your calendars for the First Cottage Garden Seed Sale on Saturday 21 November 2026 from noon - 4pm, but don’t be in a rush to sow those seeds just yet! While you can grab your seeds at the sale, it's not quite the right time to plant them. Instead, stash them in the fridge until the soil temperatures drop.

These plants thrive in cool growing conditions, which is why I recommend direct seeding them from December through the end of February. In fact, last year, the best results came from gardens seeded on February 7th! Patience pays off when it comes to these beauties.
