Cool Season Seed for Direct Sowing Cottage Gardens

Mark your calendars for the First Cottage Garden Seed Sale on September 20, 2025—but don’t be in a rush to sow those seeds just yet! While you can grab your seeds at the sale, it's not quite the right time to plant them. Instead, stash them in the fridge for a few more months and wait until the soil temperatures drop.

These plants thrive in cool growing conditions, which is why I recommend direct seeding them from December through the end of February. In fact, last year, the best results came from gardens seeded on February 7th! Patience pays off when it comes to these beauties.

For some hands-on tips, check out the Brie the Plant Lady YouTube channel, where I walk you through the entire seeding process—step by step. I’ll show you exactly how to get these cottage garden favorites started, ensuring your garden thrives come spring!

Let’s get ready for a spectacular season of cool-weather gardening!

Asheville Horizon Glass

Fused glass art is a unique medium that allows me, Alisa Burnette to capture the beauty of the natural world in a way that is both vibrant and ethereal. Each piece I create is a reflection of my love for the outdoors, inspired by the colors, textures, and forms found in nature. The interplay of light and glass is particularly captivating; as light passes through and reflects off the surfaces, it brings each artwork to life, creating a dynamic experience that changes with the environment.

Denise Freitag Pottery

I have always loved nature, flowers, and functional pottery, and these have influenced what I create in my studio. My pieces are created using stoneware clay and food safe glazes so that they can be used in the dishwasher, oven, microwave, and even placed in the freezer!
